StoryWalk and Letterboxing

Programs for Users of All Ages

2023 StoryWalk®  and Letterboxing clues have been taken down for the winter. Stay tuned for a new book installation and clues for summer 2024!

The Land Trust offers two fun, family friendly programs in the summer months. Enjoy the StoryWalk®  along the Lower Loop wide path, and venture further afield to find all of our hidden Letterboxes! Contact Jess Forbes with any questions about either of our summer programs at jessica@cblandtrust.org.

StoryWalk®

StoryWalk™ is an interactive activity display along the wide path of the Lower Loop trail off Peanut Lake Road. It’s geared towards 3-6 year olds and offers a combination of outdoor adventure with an engaging story. Each summer a new book is chosen to display, and is separated into portions along the trail in order to combine reading, walking and observing the natural surroundings.

StoryWalk™ is brought to you by the Crested Butte Land Trust and the Crested Butte Old Rock Library.

The StoryWalk™ Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Vermont Bicycle & Pedestrian Coalition (VBPC) and the Kellogg Hubbard Library.

2023 StoryWalk®
There were two books shared this summer along the wide path of the Lower Loop. Molly Frame and Dana Smedes’ CBCS first grade class has contributed an original children’s book, “Tiptoe Through the Seasons of Crested Butte.” The students wrote and performed an accompanying song, which visitors can listen to via QR code at the trailhead!

Later this past summer, the StoryWalk® book was changed to “Would You Come Too?” by Liz Garton Scanlon. We hope you were able to catch both installations! These have been taken down for the winter season but look for new stories in 2024.

Thank you to our partners at Crested Butte Old Rock Library!

Letterboxing

Letterboxing is an intriguing outdoor pursuit combining hiking, artistry, and detective work. Dating back more than 150 years, this “hike-and-seek” adventure provides exciting goals for anyone who likes a quest. Letterboxing offers an outdoor activity to share with family and friends and a wonderful way to connect with the numerous beautiful land parcels preserved by the Crested Butte Land Trust.

The letterboxing treasure hunt is perfect for kids ages 6 and up. Print out your passport for free online. Or pick up a passport and clues at the Land Trust office at 308 Third Street, the Crested Butte Museum, the Crested Butte Chamber of Commerce, or the Old Rock Community Library! The clues will take you on an adventure to find hidden stamps. See if you can collect all of the stamps in your passport this summer!

Each season, get ready to follow new clues as we hide them in new locations!

2023 Letterboxing clues have been removed for the winter season.
