Season’s Greetings

As we settle into the winter season here in Crested Butte, I want to express my gratitude for your support this past year. With your help, the Land Trust improved access at Long Lake, advanced a landmark deal to keep Red Lady mine free, and worked to protect the Slate River Wetlands in the upper valley. As a subscriber to our monthly Mountain Memo, you’ve shown your commitment to remaining engaged in the mission of the Crested Butte Land Trust. Thank you!

My pledge to you in the new year is to maintain the Crested Butte Land Trust’s high standards for conservation in your community. From the summit of Mt. Emmons to the headwaters of the Gunnison River, we are excited to keep you posted on our progress. Until then, wishing you and yours a safe and happy holiday season

Winter Field Trips

Mark your calendars for our winter field trip series. We’ll be skiing and snowshoeing out to the Magic Meadows yurt where we’ll meet representatives from partner organizations to learn about the work they do on conserved lands.

When: Fridays, January 27, February 24, and March 24 from 10 am to 2 pm.
Where: Lower Loop Nordic trails to Magic Meadow Yurt.

Friday, January 27: Joined by the Crested Butte Nordic Center, we’ll learn about the partnership between Nordic skiers and land conservation.

Friday, February 24: The Crested Butte Avalanche Center will share and demo some of the great work that they do keeping our community safe in the backcountry.

Friday, March 24: Learn some history of the Lower Loop area, including the Smith Hill Mine that sits above Gunsight Bridge, with the Crested Butte Museum.

The Land Trust is making a new video, and we want you to be part of it! This video will explore what Land Trust means to our community. Do you ride the Lower Loop, stroll through the aspens on the Lupine trails, picnic at Gunsight Bridge, or swim at Long Lake? Do you value caring for local wildlife, wetlands, and wonderful scenic views? Whatever your passion, you are an integral part of the Land Trust, and we want to hear from you!
