Crested Butte Land Trust Earns National Recognition

Did you know that the Crested Butte Land Trust goes through a rigorous process every five years to ensure we are operating at the highest possible standards for private land conservation?

We are thrilled to announce that your local land trust successfully renewed our national accreditation with the Land Trust Alliance. This prestigious recognition underscores the Crested Butte Land Trust’s dedication to excellence in conservation, stewardship, finances, and governance. Maintaining accreditation is a testament to our commitment to protecting the land you love. As an accredited land trust, the Crested Butte Land Trust is a member of a distinguished cohort of 471 land trusts across the country dedicated to strong ethical practices.

This accreditation is truly a win for conservation and for the community! We are proud to share and celebrate this achievement with you and look forward to continuing to work with you to conserve and care for critical habitats, scenic vistas, recreational spaces, and working ranchlands for generations to come..

A complete list of accredited land trusts and more information about this process can be found at www.landtrustaccreditation.org.

The Birds Are (Almost) Back in Town

Spring is just around the corner, and our valley’s unique, high-altitude Great Blue Heron population will soon be returning to their home in the Slate River wetlands. These migratory birds arrive in mid-March and will stay through the summer before departing for warmer climates in mid-August.

Once our feathered friends arrive, our partners at Crested Butte Nordic will close a portion of the Magic Meadows trail due to its proximity to the river and the heron rookery. Please also keep in mind that the upper stretch of the Slate River from Gunsight Bridge to the Rec Path bridge in town is under a voluntary no-float restriction from now until July 15, keeping the rookery safe for wildlife during this critical nesting period.

Winter Field Trip

Our last field trip of the winter season is on Friday, March 22 @ 10 AM with Crested Butte Nordic!

Join the Crested Butte Land Trust and Crested Butte Nordic for a ski and pastries at the Magic Meadows Yurt. Hear updates from both organizations and learn about the partnership between Nordic skiers and land conservation. Enjoy a free day pass and ski the trails afterward!
