Season of Thanks

For some of us, the start of the winter brings excitement for snow and anticipation for a bountiful ski season; it’s what we’ve been waiting for all year long. For others, it’s time to hibernate and reluctantly get out the shovels. But for all of us, near and far, ski enthusiasts and snowbirds, this is the time of year to reflect and give thanks for the abundance in our lives.

Here at the Land Trust, we are filled with immense gratitude for this community, who show up in every way to protect the clean waterways, healthy habitats, and open spaces that make Gunnison Valley so special. Whether you’ve been able to roll up your sleeves and pull noxious weeds with us, attend an event, or connect with us over coffee, thank you. Because of you, important areas like the Lower Loop, Long Lake, Lupine Trails, Gunsight Bridge, and the Mt. CB Rec Path, along with large portions of the Slate River and its wetlands are all well-cared for and will be enjoyed by generations to come. Conserving and stewarding the places that we love is not possible without you.

Colorado Gives Day is coming up on December 6. If you are able, please consider supporting this annual statewide movement celebrating and supporting local nonprofits. Donations given on the Colorado Gives Day platform now through December 6 are also boosted by the $1 million statewide incentive fund. Beyond this season of thanks and giving, your time, your skills, and your voice are all things you can give in addition to charitable donations, and we look forward to continuing to do this important work with you.

Whether you are starting your snow dances now, or holding on to the dwindling warm afternoons, we wish you and yours a happy Thanksgiving.

Winter Recreation on Conserved Land

Are your skis out yet? Crested Butte Nordic maintains an extensive Nordic ski trail system, much of which lies on Land Trust conserved lands. Check out this map, and the maps page on our website, to see how important land conservation is to winter (and summer) recreation.
